According to recent reports by the United Nations and the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, while women constitute approximately one-third of scientific researchers globally, this proportion declines to around 12% among members of national science academies. The report highlights the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which also encompass our department's fields of study, emphasizing that women make up only 22% of professionals in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 28% of engineering graduates.
To draw attention to this gender gap across scientific disciplines and the critical role of women in technology fields shaping the future, the "International Day of Women and Girls in Science, February 11" declared by the United Nations, was celebrated with a special event held in our department.

As part of the event, Research Assistant Ayşe DUMAN delivered a presentation titled "Inspiring Women Academics in the World of Science." The presentation shared the inspiring life story of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first female scientist to win the Fields Medal, considered the Nobel Prize of mathematics.
Following an interactive Q&A session, the program concluded with a meaningful celebration of success. Res. Asst. Ayşe DUMAN was congratulated for successfully completing her master's degree. Celebrating the academic achievement of a female researcher from our department on this specific day added a distinct significance to the event.
