Dear Students and Visitors,
Bursa Technical University was established in 2010 as the 5th Technical University in Turkey and the 2nd State University in Bursa. Within the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, our Department of Polymer Materials Engineering offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, and provides education at the Bursa/Yıldırım, Mimar Sinan campus.
Established in 2012 as the first and only Department of Fiber and Polymer Engineering in Turkey, our department was renamed Polymer Materials Engineering with the decision taken on March 20, 2020. The Master's program has been admitting students since the Spring semester of the 2012-2013 academic year, the Doctorate Program since the Spring semester of the 2013-2014 academic year, and the Undergraduate Program has been admitting students since the Fall semester of the 2015-2016 academic year.
Graduates of polymer materials engineering are needed in departments such as purchasing, synthesis, production, quality control, planning, sales, and process control in companies, particularly in Bursa, Istanbul, Kocaeli, and Yalova, where the polymer materials sectors are concentrated, as well as in other regions of our country.
Polymer-based materials and production technologies are an area of interest within the evolving fields of work today. The exploration and development of polymeric materials, which are present in many materials we use in our daily lives, and the production and design of new materials in this field are necessary. Our department contributes to scientific and technological activities in the field of polymer materials through projects aimed at developing new materials, conducting studies in plastic, textile, rubber, composite, automotive, technical textiles, coating, and adhesive sectors, with its modern laboratories and expert academic staff in each field, in line with the founding purpose of our university.
Our fundamental goal is to educate engineers who are aware of their professional responsibilities, have a good professional knowledge, follow technological developments in their field, possess research and development skills, and have professional and ethical responsibilities, in line with the needs of the industries producing and using polymer materials.
Best Regards,
Prof. Dr. Kenan YILDIRIM
Head of Department
